During the teenage years, hormonal fluctuations can contribute to various skin issues, such as acne and excess oil production. However, this is also a time when the skin has remarkable resilience and can recover quickly. By adopting a straightforward skincare routine, teenagers can address their skin's needs without overwhelming it with an array of complex products.
Addressing Acne: For those dealing with acne, consider incorporating a targeted treatment containing ingredients like salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. However, use these treatments judiciously to prevent excessive drying or irritation.
Healthy Lifestyle Habits: Remember that skincare goes beyond topical products. Maintaining a balanced diet, staying hydrated, and getting adequate sleep are integral parts of a holistic approach to skincare. These habits not only contribute to a radiant complexion but also support overall well-being.
The Dos and Don'ts that you need to add to your daily regime are:
2-time cleansing is a must – Teenagers face a lot of breakouts due to hormonal changes they face. On waking up, our skin feels oily as teenage skin is prone to oil and acne. Avoid using soaps as they can be harsh on the skin. Choose a cleanser suitable for your skin type and add it to your daily skincare routine, morning and night. Cleansing at night, before bed, helps clean out the dirt and oil the skin might have accumulated over the day.
Moisturizing is the key – Yes, as everyone says, moisturizing is the key to healthy skin. Never use body lotions on the skin as they are not for it. Always look for a facial moisturizer that is lightweight and water-based. Oily and greasy moisturizers promote frequent breakouts.
Don’t forget your sunscreen – Be it summer or winter, sunscreen is needed to protect the skin from harmful UV rays. You’re never too young to add these basic skincare regimes to your life to help you in the coming years. Apply sunscreen 15-30 minutes before leaving your house. Sunscreen cannot protect your skin completely, so you should limit yourself from getting exposed to the sun too much during the day.
What about Lip Balm? – I remember my teenage days when we used to be crazy about buying those flavored lip balms with fragrances of fruits such as strawberries, apricots, and whatnot. A lip balm can be used even if you don’t have chapped lips. It will only make your lips look smoother and hydrated.
Exfoliate once a week – Exfoliating helps with any leftover dirt after cleansing. Avoid using face scrubs available in the market. Use organic ingredients. Milk is a good exfoliator that is readily available in every household. It does not only exfoliate the skin but also hydrates it at the same time.
Say no to face powders! – Powders clog the pores and lead to more breakouts than staying oily will. It also makes the skin look patchy. A better alternative is using blotting papers to get rid of the excess oil on your skin.
Don’t pop those bumpy pimples – It can be irresistible and tempting to touch the bumpy skin surface. It surely is satisfying for some, but if you don’t want your skin to be full of spots for the rest of your life, never touch them pimples. It leads to infection and acne issues.
Bottles and bottles of water - Water is another important key to obtaining healthy skin not only during teenage but for skin of every age. Water keeps the skin hydrated and glowy. So therefore, by focusing on gentle cleansing, hydration, sun protection, occasional exfoliation, and mindful product selection, teenagers can cultivate a foundation for healthy, radiant skin that endures beyond adolescence. The teenage years are a unique opportunity to establish habits that will contribute to a lifetime of glowing, resilient skin. So, embrace simplicity, prioritize self-care, and let your skin shine with the timeless glow of youthful vitality.
