It's easy to overlook the importance of self-care and skincare. Our skin, the largest organ of the body, requires attention and care to maintain its health and radiance. Among the myriad of skincare rituals, exfoliation stands out as a key player in unveiling a fresh, luminous complexion.

Today I'm going to introduce you all to Exfoliation. It is nothing but the removal of dead skin cells from the surface of the skin using certain skincare products which can be either natural or artificial. But as we always say, too much of anything is bad for you. In the same way, too much exfoliation might leave your skin irritated and dry.

However, you should exfoliate your skin at least once a week to remove all the dead skin cells that sit on your skin even after cleansing. Be it dry or oily, every skin requires regular cleanup.

You should always look for gentle exfoliants that don’t harm your skin and do the work just right. Exfoliating products can be physical exfoliants as well as chemical exfoliants. Exfoliation gives you youthful and healthy skin and will also help in the long run by preventing early signs of aging.

As the winter season is approaching, we are gonna share with you exfoliants that can be used during the cold air. These scrubs can be prepared at home, yes you read it right, DIY face exfoliators or face scrubs for every skin type.

1. Lemon-sugar scrub for OILY SKIN

Lemon is well known for its antioxidant properties. It prevents premature aging leading to youthful glowy skin. It also prevents any fungal infections on the skin. Sugar simply removes the dead cells and cleanses the skin pores.

How to – Squeeze the juice of half a lemon in a glass bowl. Add partially ground sugar to it. Stir them. Apply to the face and exfoliate your skin in circular motions. Remember to do it very gently. Do not press the sugar against your skin as it will only damage your skin. Rinse with water and tap-dry your face. Apply a serum and then go on with a hydrating moisturizer.

2. Sugar honey oil scrub for DRY SKIN

Honey helps to maintain the activity of bacteria on your skin. Dry skin needs good deep moisturization as exfoliation might leave your skin feeling dry. Honey and coconut oil are natural hydration for the skin. When massaged gently, they even prevent the formation of wrinkles. Honey is also known for being an antiseptic.

How to – Add one tablespoon of coconut oil, ½ tablespoon of honey, and 1 ½ tablespoon of sugar into a glass bowl. Stir the three ingredients well. Apply on the skin evenly and gently massage the skin with this scrub to obtain hydrated clean skin.

3. Oatmeal-milk scrub

Oatmeal has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and calms the skin. When soaked in milk for some time, it can be used as a gentle exfoliator for every skin type. It does not feel harsh on the skin and softens the skin surface. Milk acts as a hydrating agent as oatmeal might leave some of you feeling dry. So milk helps with the hydration that is needed.

How to – Mix one tablespoon of oatmeal with one tablespoon of milk. You can add olive or coconut oil if you have very dry skin. Mix the combination well. Keep it aside for about 3 mins. Gently massage your face with this mixture for 2-3 minutes and you are good to go.

Therefore, Exfoliation is a must for every skin type to remove any dead cells that might clog the pores and lead to breakouts. It removes the excess dirt and your skin will feel lighter than it ever felt.
